Julia(n) – aka “Mx. Rich” to their students – is a 21st century shop teacher based in Los Angeles with a rich and diverse background in arts education. Throughout the school year, they manage a bustling maker space and serve as an industrial arts educator at a middle/high school. Their passion lies in equipping individuals with practical skills in woodworking, electronics, and textile arts, viewing these crafts as transformative catalysts for building more sustainable and empowered communities. Julia(n) has inspired others to embrace their creative potential through workshops at The Los Angeles Public Library, The Smithsonian, Cooper Hewitt, The Children’s Museum of the Arts, New York University, University of California – Los Angeles, LA Woodshop, creative reuse centers, community organizing hubs, and more!
