Scrap Art Dolls
Description: Hand sewn intuitive scrap art dolls have been made for centuries, from folk art traditions to those made for the collection of Queen Mary and everything in between. This class is a beginner course for making intuitive art dolls from scraps. Given Remainder’s dedication to creative reuse, you’ll use fabric scraps to build your doll from the inside out. Starting with creating the underlying shapes to covering/attaching fabric remnants, you will be guided through options of creating patchwork, using embroidery stitches to embellish, and creative decision making around how “finished” or raw you want your doll to be. Delightful surprises arise when you react to what is developing in front of you rather than going in with a specific plan – happy accidents are highly encouraged in this class!
Materials Included: Thread, fabrics and all necessary tools and materials.
Kids under 9: must attend with a grown up which can be one sign up.
Kids age 9-15: Drop off & sign in all students; pick up and sign out all students; Parents are free to stay for the class to assist your child; parents will be called to pick up their child immediately if there is an attitude or discipline issue.
PLEASE NOTE: There is NO PARKING in the back lot for daytime classes due to staff needs. Please park on the street.

Instructor: Sarena Vasquez
Sarena (she/they) is an artist, yogi, and self-compassion enthusiast! She has a BFA in animation and feels a profound sense of purpose through community-centered initiatives. Her favorite way to explore creativity is through “play” where she tries to create without judgment, expectation, or rigidity. Sarena’s desire is to express herself with love & authenticity and to help others do the same – especially for the Queer and Neurodivergent community, through the wonderful world of art.
