Onion & Avocado Dyeing

Description: Discover the beautiful colors hiding in everyday kitchen scraps! In this hands-on class, participants will learn the basics of natural dyeing using onion skins and avocado pits and skins. Explore simple dyeing techniques, prepare natural dye baths, and experiment with creating unique colors and patterns on fabric. You’ll leave with your own naturally dyed samples and the skills to continue exploring sustainable, low-waste dyeing at home. No previous experience necessary.

Materials Included: All necessary tools and materials. Fabric for dyeing will be provided.

Instructor: Akina Cox

Akina has been an artist and writer and educator for over twenty years. Her artwork has been included in exhibitions at Commonwealth and Council, Bozo Mag, and Suzanne Vielmetter Los Angeles. Her artist books and zines have been sold and exhibited at Centre de Pompidou in Paris, Art Metropole in Toronto, Printed Matter in New York and MoCA in Los Angeles. She has a passion for all things fabric related, including sewing, dyeing and other fiber art forms.
