Modern Mending
Description: “Modern Mending” is a creative and practical sewing class that teaches participants how to give new life to their clothes using innovative techniques to patch, mend, and upcycle garments. In this class, you’ll explore how to repair clothing by incorporating other fabrics, transforming holes, tears, or worn-out areas into stylish, functional patches that breathe new personality into your wardrobe. Rather than simply using traditional patches, you’ll experiment with a variety of fabric types—such as patterned textiles, denim, linen, or even reclaimed fabrics from old clothes.
At the end of class, you’ll have the tools and confidence to mend and personalize your clothes, reducing waste and fostering a sustainable, hands-on approach to garment care. You’ll also leave with a stronger appreciation for creative problem-solving in fashion, embracing imperfections as opportunities to showcase your own unique style.
Materials Included: All the amazingly wonderful supplies from Remainders and all necessary additional materials. Bring your own item to be mended.
Note: LATE ARRIVALS NOT ADMITTED ONCE CLASS HAS BEGUN

I am a life long lover of all forms of arts and crafts, I have dabbled in a few and mastered several. Crocheting and knitting bring me comfort when I listen to music, podcasts or an audible book. Sewing has been my greatest accomplishment in that I have made everything from professional business suits to bathing suits to chair/cushion slip covers. I briefly had an Esty shop where I sold items made from recycled blue jeans. Recently I retired from a full-time budget/accounting role in academia and turned my side hustle as a professional home organizer into my semi-retirement job. Helping people declutter and organize their homes provides me great satisfaction so I don’t look at it as a job. Organizing energizes me and the energy flowing through my soul is showing its results in my art projects….as many and diverse as they are.
