Family Art – Hopi Kachina Dolls
Family Art Project: Families will explore the cultural significance of Hopi Kachina Dolls as traditional carvings that represent spiritual beings, elements of nature, and community values in Hopi culture. After learning about the history and purpose of Kachina dolls, participants will create their own symbolic, nature-inspired figures using recycled and mixed-media materials. The project emphasizes storytelling, creativity, and respect for Indigenous traditions while encouraging families to reflect on the values, animals, or natural elements that are meaningful to them. This activity is educational and is not intended to replicate or appropriate authentic Hopi Kachina dolls, but rather to inspire original artwork informed by an appreciation of Hopi cultural traditions.
