Family Art – Calder Mobiles

Note: Children under 8 must attend with an adult, which would be one signup.

Family Art Project: Discover the playful world of movement and balance in this workshop inspired by the innovative sculptures of Alexander Calder. Famous for inventing the mobile, Calder transformed simple shapes and colors into dynamic works of art that move gracefully with the air. You will learn about Calder’s life and artistic style before designing and building your own hanging mobile sculptures using wire, cardstock, recycled materials, and colorful shapes. Participants will experiment with simple engineering concepts to create a sculpture that gently moves and changes from every angle. This collaborative workshop encourages creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork while introducing families to the exciting intersection of art and science.

Materials Included: All necessary tools and materials.

Instructor: Sarena Vasquez

Sarena (she/they) is an artist, yogi, and self-compassion enthusiast! She has a BFA in animation and feels a profound sense of purpose through community-centered initiatives. Her favorite way to explore creativity is through “play” where she tries to create without judgment, expectation, or rigidity. Sarena’s desire is to express herself with love & authenticity and to help others do the same – especially for the Queer and Neurodivergent community, through the wonderful world of art.

Location:

All classes take place UPSTAIRS in our CREATIVE SPACE unless otherwise noted. Use the exterior stairs on the side of the building to enter.
