Alterations Lab Series

Sundays, November 8, November 15, November 22: 3:30pm – 5:30pm

Description: This class is perfect for those who have some experience with alterations, or have taken our Intro to Alterations class and want a deeper dive. Each garment alteration is a unique project. Students will learn alongside others who are working through their own unique alterations. In the first week, we will work on fitting, pinning, and, in some cases, unpicking. In the second and third weeks, we will mark the pins, sew, and apply any finishing touches.

Materials Included: Sewing machines, and all necessary tools and materials. Please bring at least 2-3 garment options to alter.

PLEASE NOTE: There is NO PARKING in the back lot for daytime classes due to staff needs. Please park on the street.

Instructor: Amanda Edwards

Amanda has taught middle & elementary school for over 12 years. She discovered garment sewing in 2018 by making a simple woven top and was immediately hooked. Since then, she has learned many more sewing techniques & skills while working toward a goal of crafting a completely handmade wardrobe. Sewing has helped her find more joy and acceptance of her body, cultivate a sense of environmental stewardship, and develop mindful clothing practices. She hopes to share this feeling of confidence and empowerment with others on their sewing journey. Her approach toward garment sewing is mindful, sustainable, and inclusive of all sized bodies.

My name is Megan Bright and I am excited to have you in class! I’ve been sewing by my grandmother’s inspiration since around 2004. I studied apparel design at university and moved to beautiful California in 2017 to pursue work in costume design. Currently I enjoy teaching, sewing with friends, and working as an alterations specialist for red-carpet events.
